Sun Bathing and Sea Swimming

Perhaps the greatest advantage of sun bathing is that it take you away from your usual environment; this in itself to reduce stress. Another advantage is that it relaxes us and relaxation of any kind is good for the health. To benefit from the valuable ultra violet rays of the sun, which generate Vitamin D in the system, it is not necessary to lie directly in the sun – the rays can be of benefit even if you are in the shade, provided that you are not wearing thick clothing.

Over exposure to the sun can be dangerous and can lead to sunstroke. For someone used to the British sun, exposure to the sun say in the Mediterranean or the tropics should be by gradual stages. When there is an enormous amount of perspiration from the body, it is essential to replace both the water and salt. Unless this is done, a person is liable to collapse. A drink of water with a dash of salt, sugar and lime is excellent.

The eyes are the one part of the body that must be protected during sun bathing. If the eyes are properly protected from the sun, the body will not suffer any harm. There is no foundation for the popular belief that the head and back of the neck must be protected from the sun. After acclimatization the body can take any amount of sun provided that the eyes are properly protected.

The fact is that sewage in sea water has never been scientifically proved to be a serious health hazard. The salt in the sea water probably has a lot to do with this as salt is an excellent disinfectant. Moreover the enormous volume of water in the sea together with the action of the tides contributes towards keeping sea water safe for swimming.

Find The Presence of Excess Fat

Mirror also supplies reliable evidence of excess fat accumulation. Generally the fat accumulates on the chin, the neck, the belly and the waist of men, and on the breasts, the belly, the waist, the thighs and the buttocks of women.

If a person wears minimum required clothes, stands before a mirror and observes the above the proportions of his body, he can easily find out whether the is any excess fat on those parts or not.

If it is not possible to decide easily where the chin ends and where the neck begins, if the waistline is broader than the chest line, if the belly is large and sagging or if the thighs rub against each other while walking, they are sure signs of the excess fat.

Experts believe that for men, measurement of the waistline is like a lighthouse signal. If one finds it difficult to put on his old clothes, or if he finds it difficult to button them up or if he feels that his clothes have stated fitting him tight, it is an indication of increasing fat.

Sweat Glands – Deodorants and Antiperspirants

Sweat glands are present almost everywhere in the skin, except for the lips and a few other areas. Most of them give off the extremely dilute salt water known as sweat or perspiration. Their purpose is to cool the body by evaporation of water. Body odors are not produced by perspiration itself, but by the bacterial activity that takes place in the perspiration. The activity is most intense in warm, moist parts of the body from which the perspiration n cannot evaporate quickly, such as underarm areas.

Deodorants – the basic means of keeping this type of bacterial growth under control is through personal cleanliness of both the skin and clothing. Deodorant soaps containing antiseptic chemicals are now available. Though they do not kill bacteria, they do reduce the speed with which they multiply.
Underarm deodorants also help to eliminate the odor. They are not meant to stop the flow of perspiration, but rather to slow down the bacterial growth and mask body odors with their own scent. Such deodorants should be applied immediately after bathing. They are usually more effective if the underarm area is shaved, since the hair in this unexposed area collects perspiration and encourages bacterial growth.

Antiperspirants – Antiperspirants differ from deodorants in that they not only affect the rate of bacterial growth, but also reduce the amount of perspiration that reaches the skin surface. Since the action of the chemical salts they contain is cumulative, they seem to be more effective with repeated use. Antiperspirants come under the category of drugs, and their contents must be printed on the container. Deodorants are considered cosmetics, and may or may not name their contents on the package.

Heart Attack

Physicians have other names for heart attack: coronary occlusion, coronary thrombosis, myocardial infraction. Coronary occlusion means total closure of the coronary artery. This may caused by fatty deposits that have piled up high enough to dam the flow channel.
Or it may be that a blood clot, or thrombus, forming in the coronary artery, has suddenly caught on the roughened, fat clogged area and plugged up the vessel. In this case of the occlusion is called a coronary thrombosis. Myocardial infraction refers to the actual damage or death of heart muscle (myocardium) resulting from the occlusion.

Heart attack hits males hardest. The frequency of heart attacks begins to build rapidly among men between the ages of 30 and 40 but it almost unknown in women of the same age group. The odds begin evening out as women approach and pass menopause. Despite this, during the same 40 to 44 age period the ratio of male to female heart attacks may be as high as 24 to one.
The incidence of heart attacks increases with age. The peak years for male heart attacks are in the 55 to 59 age bracket. The percentage of deaths from first heart attacks is highest among men, say in their forties, as compared with those I n their sixties presumably because they do not have as well-developed collateral circulation to protect them.
