General Skin and Hair Care

Skin protects the internal structures of the body. Often taken for granted, it is one of the body’s major defenses against the invasion of disease organisms. The skin is also important in the regulation of the body temperature and in the excretion of wastes through perspiration. In addition its ability to sense pain, touch, heat and cold warns the body of possible danger.

Healthy, attractive skin and elimination of body odors can be achieved by through soaping and rinsing of every part of the body. Special care should be taken to wash the groin, armpits and feet thoroughly.

Frequent hair washing is also necessary, both for the sake of appearance and for the health of the scalp. Since the root for hair is beneath the surface of the skin and since oil (sebaceous) glands open into the root area, the secretion of the glands can plug up the follicle, the shaft which contains the root. Vigorous brushing and finger tip massage of the scalp will stimulate circulation of blood, which brings nutrients to the scalp and helps distribute sebaceous gland secretions.
